Vision of Peace: James Baldwin (1924-1987) was a prolific African-American writer and social thinker of the 20th century. His prose and eloquence provided a narrative for society's most vulnerable and silenced. He was incredibly integral during the Civil Rights Movement, such that his craft of writing was a platform to speak on racial and social issues of the 1960's, which still resonate to this day. Baldwin was also friends with fellow freedom leaders, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers, each of whom were tragically assassinated. Baldwin's legacy left a mark on not only American society, but Internationally - as a dynamic advocate for universal peace and solidarity.

"Words like freedom, justice, democracy are not common concepts; on the contrary, they are rare. People are not born knowing what these are. It takes enormous and, above all, individual effort to arrive at the respect for other people that these words imply." - James Baldwin
